Xlibris is one self-publishing company who practically has everything an author requires. The company has been in business for over a decade already to know what they are doing. They have programs that have all the inclusions that will turn your book of poems into book form.

Anybody interested in self-publishing--even if they choose to actually print the book themselves--should check out this POD forum, the most informed input (from users) on that kind of publishing.

Mary,
I used Outskirts Press and am still receiving marketing help from them. I got what I paid for in the package I selected and to date am very happy with them. I had no Illustrations.

Carol,
It takes a little time to research Google Book Search. It is not real user friendly. You can start here:

to Monifa,
Try http://www.publishamerica.com for free publishing and yes, if you chose to self-publish (edit, layout, and print your own) you can apply for a single ISBN. See my blog at http://abookinside.blogspot.com because there is are two posts there which deal with ISBN's and will answer your questions. If you can't locate it, let me know and I'll get the exact link for you. When you order your ISBN get your barcode at the same time for $25.
Good luck!

Monifa - How many illustrations you place in your book would help determine which publisher you might use. In addition to lulu, try Outskirts Press. I don't know a lot about them so you'd have to do some research. I know of another person who published with them and she's very happy, but I don't know if she has illustrations.

Hi Kenneth, All three of my novels employ "Search Inside the Book." It's a unique and valuable sales tool. It costs nothing. Get on it!

Hello everyone,

I'm currently writing a small collection of short stories, poems and illustrations for self-publication. The poems are completed, but the short stories are currently WIP. The writing plus illustrations (including the book cover) should be complete in 6 mos. to 1 yr. Besides lulu.com, are there other sites that anyone here would recommend? Some companies offer services in which the ISBN is provided. I'd also like to know how I can get an ISBN myself (if that's possible).

Thank you for your help.

I'm looking forward to your replies.

Monifa
