About Me
I am Elizabeth Bennett and I was born and raised in South Carolina. I grew up and lived there until my mid 30's when I moved to Los Angeles for four years. Recently, I returned to South Carolina due to the bad economy and to keep an eye on my elderly mother.

I was bullied for 27 years and that is why I am so passionate about this cause. Believe me, I know the damage this can do to a person which is why I call this Peer Abuse.

I never married or had children. Now Mr. Right could still come along, who knows. I have always focused on my career instead. Even though I like children, I do not think I could be a good mother.

I am a mother in a sense to my cat Popcat. He is an orange and white tabby cat and is a tad overweight. We are trying to cut down on his food intake as food to him is like a pacifer is to a baby. This cat is so much like a child and is quirky. For example, he tries to climb into the washing machine and dryer. Also, will take about five pieces of Pounce treats and line them up in a row. He has a lot of personality and I love him to bits.

I use to play the piano and cello as a child. However, I never felt I was any good at them. I love music though and enjoy most any that is out there. Except for country; I have never liked that style of music. Old school stuff is good.

My sense of humor is good. I enjoy sarcasm a lot. As long as it is not hurtful its good. The MTV character Daria that was popular in the late 1990's was hysterical. Some may see her as a smart aleck but I liked her. She just made me laugh. My friends say I can be funny. I usually make them laugh.

I am a bear collector and have been since 1974 when I got my first bear. It belonged to a lady who taught school with my mother and she did not want it anymore so she gave it to me. Now, I have probably over 100 stuffed bears along with bear clothes, jewelry, rugs, posters, figurines, pictures and other odds and ends. I also collect keychains and everywhere I go to visit, I generally purchase one. Oh and the requisite tee shirt too!

Traveling is great. I have been to countries such as Canada, Mexico, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Israel and hope to visit more in my lifetime. I would love to go to Italy next. I love Italian food!

I never knew my paternal grandmother and that bothers me. I have been told we are very much alike.

I am a Christian but am tolerant of others beliefs and religions. I have friends from different backgrounds. They do not slam me for my beliefs nor do I slam them for theirs. We get along great that way. I am spiritual too. Plus, I love helping people. I cannot save the world but I can try to make it a better place.

Facebook Advocates Safety

Yesterday kicked off Anti-bullying Week and it goes from November 16-20 2009. One thing that is really being focused upon is the problem of cyber-bullying. As we all know, this is a problem that is out of control and at some point, someone needs to put a stop to it. The problem is a huge one on social sites like My Space, Facebook, Twitter, Bebo and others where kids can go and interact with their friends as well as adults. . Facebook has decided to take some preventative measures and has launch… Continue

Zero Tolerance and Catching the wrong Kids

As I was watching the local news last evening, I happened to see a segment on the issue of zero tolerance on there. Basically, local school districts were giving their policies and procedures as to how they handle this problem within their schools. The parents were complaining that zero tolerance was too strict and needed to be handled on a case to case basis. Schools have implemented this policy for quite some time in order to cut down on criminal behavior, catch the bullying going on and to ba… Continue

Sexting: The latest form of bullying

This past Friday, an episode of Degrassi The next Generation aired an episode entitled “Shoot to Thrill”. This episode involved a girl named Ali and her boyfriend Johnny. Ali took some pictures of Johnny and a stuffed animal promising never to share them with anyone. As the episode went on, we saw how poorly Johnny treated Ali in their relationship. Instead of breaking up with him, she took it up a notch and decided to take nude pictures of herself and send them to Johnny on his cell phone. Need… Continue

Is the US heading in this direction?

Wow! Another week and another Google Alert. This time, its about having cameras in the classrooms in the United Kingdom. Wonder if this trend will hit up the United States?

A group in the UK called Class watch sets up cameras in classrooms and uses this as a basis for professional development. So far, they have been set up in over 100 schools and used for in class surveillance. They state that this is not an action of Big Brother existing but of trying to help teachers improve their performance… Continue
