Appreciate your comments. Coffee sounds good if we ever get together. By the way, I grew up in NJ near Freehold and I used to be an auditor for the State of NJ and audited the Freehold Race Track among other things - it's a small world. Nice to have you aboard.

Hi J.A.,
I searched for a way to change your photo for you but it appears you can't rotate your member photo. I guess they figure that one is easy to delete and replace.
Oh well, back to the cute sideways shot!!!

A book in the life of a writer, part 2

Continued

Sorry about the interruption, but transcribing and editing take a lot out of me. Now, where was I? Oh yes, characters.
In a long story, or as in my case a saga, good characters are very hard to kill off! This is especially true if you need to introduce new characters!
One of the things I find hardest to do is kill off a character I have spent a lot of time developing, especially if that character is, in the end, either likable or one of the hidd… Continue

Now the real WORK begins

A book in the life of a writer.
I was considering what it took for me to write one of the books in this saga, I ended up writing, a few days ago and decided to share a few of the revelations I found under those rocks as I turned them over.
The first revelation was that I get to do the best part, the part I enjoy the most, first. I get to write the story. Not only do I get a tremendous amount of personal satisfaction from writing it, I get a sense of accomplishment from doing it well enough that… Continue

Getting Published 3

Here is a tough one for you to accept! Getting published should be somewhere down about the middle of your to do list!
It is always interesting to me to hear the excuses some potential authors give because they cannot seem get their work accepted by a publisher. They are always griping that they are getting rejection slips to every query letter they send. If I ask them why they think that is, the usual answer I get is 'I don't know'. That, I tell them, is one of their biggest problems! Th… Continue

Getting Published 2

As I stated, getting published is not as hard as one might at first think.

1) The most common medium writers turn to, once they have beaten their heads against the high wall of the ensconced traditional publishing medium, is self publishing.

2) Self publishing can be the road to much personal satisfaction, and some money thrown in for grins and giggles. It can also be the road to perdition, a path through a bog that has no feelings of remorse for the unwary!

3) The key things to remember if y… Continue

Getting published

Getting published:
It is not as hard as one might think! The real question one should ask ones' self is; 'Is the publishing medium I chose the right one?'
I'm going to leave this as stated for a short time to see what kind of feedback I get. I do have my reasons for doing so, so please bear with me for a short while. Please feel free to comment on my statements as you see fit, and I will pick up the thread in a few days time.
