Website Updated/Composer Wanted

I finally had time to update my website this week. I added two new pages, one to keep a list of articles I'm writing for various periodicals and the other to provide links to lyrics I've begun to write. I am a staff writer for Poetic Monthly Magazine, but they do not keep archives online once an issue is replaced by a new current one. So, once an issue has passed, I'm posting my column on my Associated Content space. You can see the start on my list at… Continue

Belated and elated news

A lot's been going on the last few weeks. I'll try to bring you up to date. After a year-long job search, I managed to get hired last month as a Systems Analyst at the airport here in Wichita. While it's a great relief to be working again, I've found little time to write until this week. As for news, my latest article was published today at Poetic Monthly Magazine. It is about inspiration to write and you can download the pdf for free: http:Continue

Two bits of news (that's twenty-five cents' worth)

My first article as a staff writer for Poetic Monthly Magazine was published today. There is a free pdf you can read; my article is on pages 60-61, titled "A Poet Does Not a Lyricist Make." Hope you enjoy it, along with the rest of the issue: http://www.poetstage.com/poeticmonthly.htm (click on "View free PDF:). Also, most of my poetic form articles now appear on my new Associated Content page:… Continue

I'm moving my articles to AC

I have been posting my poetic form tutorials on my own website, 22 so far, but have decided to move them to Associated Content, a site devoted to articles and information from a wide variety of topics. On this site, my audience will be widened considerably. For many years I have had columns published, both online and in print, about business practices and describing technology to the layperson. I plan on publishing some of those articles as well, and will get back to writing on those topics aga… Continue

Poem chosen as a "Staff Pick"

One of my recent poems, "Keeper of the Grounds," was chosen as a "Staff Pick" for the month of September by GotPoetry.com. "Keeper" is a "terza rima" poem, an Italian form from the Middle Ages, once used by such poets as Dante, Milton, Byron, Robert Frost and T.S. Eliot. This is the second time a poem of mine was selected as a GotPoetry.com Staff Pick. The first was "Brothers," chosen in September, 2008. I wonder if I'll be chosen in again September of 2010... For more information, and to see… Continue

I'm now a literary magazine staff writer

I'm excited to announce that the online literary publication, Poetic Monthly Magazine, accepted my application to become a staff writer and my column will begin appearing in next month's issue. I was introduced to its founder, Martin D. White, by my good friend and fellow author Diane Tegarden. Martin describes his magazine: "Poetic Monthly Magazine is so much more than just poetry. Each month our talented staff writers [discuss] writing, poetry styles, book promotion, and other author related… Continue

Poetry and Publishers

Though poetry is making a comeback, especially classic poetry, traditional publishers, such as Random House and Penguin Group, are still hesitant to take on such a project. It would be helpful if everyone who enjoys poetry would let major publishers know by going to their websites and sending comments. Start by looking inside the covers in your favorite books and see who the publisher is. Then look them up online. Buying gobs of poetry books wouldn't hurt either. Continue

I was highlighted in a newspaper column today

In today's issue of the Hutchinson News, an article appeared about me and my relationship with Greensburg, KS, and the 5.4.7 Arts Center. "Poet, Arts Center 'Splendid' Partners," describes my new book as well as my interest in the small town's rebuilding efforts. About two hours west of Wichita, Greensburg was obliterated by an EF-5 tornado in May 2007. 'Splendid' refers to the title of my book, "A Splendid Alternative" and the title poem inspired by Greensburg's phoenix-like re-emergence from… Continue

Two news items

The 5-4-7 Arts Center in Greensburg, built to high "green" standards after the devastating tornado nearly destroyed the town in 2007, has begun selling Jack's latest book. The title poem, "A Splendid Alternative," was written about Greensburg's admirable rebuilding efforts. Jack has decided to donate all profits from sales of "Splendid" to the Arts Center and is recommending that fans also consider donations. The Arts Center building is the first "LEED Platinum" building in Kansas. For more inf… Continue

Poetic Forms Section Added to Website

Just a quick note: I've been writing weekly articles about various forms of poetry for a popular Ryze group (Wordmeisters, Poets and Writers-Unite!) and recently decided to post them on my website, JackHuber.com. I'll be adding more articles week by week, and will take requests to discuss different forms. For more information, go to http://www.jackhuber.com/poeticforms.htm. Enjoy! Jack Continue

My new book, "A Splendid Alternative," is available

Good news! I received my final proof and have approved it (finally), making my new book available on CreateSpace and Amazon.com. Like all my books (weird saying that, this is my fourth book now), "A Splendid Alternative" is named for a poem within, a piece written about the goings on of the tiny town of Greensburg, KS, after being devastated by an EF-5 tornado in 2007. Their rebuilding efforts are inspirational. This new collection of poetry and photographs contains 55 poems paired with photos… Continue

Reviews of new book needed

I am patiently waiting for the proof of my new book of poetry and photography, "A Splendid Alternative," but in the meantime, I'd like to get a couple of reviews from authors. If you are published (or self-published) and would like to write a review for me, please let me know and I'll send you a pdf of the complete book. I'll also return the favor, if desired. Thanks, Jack Continue

PoetryDances Highlights "Dormant"

PoetryDances.com is currently highlighting a site favorite, "Dormant," as its "Poem of the Week." "Dormant" had already been chosen as a "Selected Poem" for February-April of 2009, one of three of Jack's poems to have been named to that list. Jack was also notified that his haiku, "Ice," will be highlighted soon. You can see PoetryDances' "Poem of the Week" at www.poetrydances.com/poemoftheweek.htm. Continue

"An Eerie Calm" reviewed by Diane Tegarden, Firewalker Publications

"An Eerie Calm Before the Night- A Collection of Sonnets" by Jack Huber (review written March 14th, 2009) Jack is as skillful with the images he captures with his camera as he is when he is painting them with words. His sonnets entertain and inform the reader as his pictures fill your vision. While reading his new collection "An Eerie Calm Before the Night- A Collection of Sonnets", I was drawn to a poem called "A Phoenix Rises". This poem aptly describes the sudden, frightening devastation th… Continue
